Bonţida Castle

Bonţida Castle

In 1387, King Sigismund of Luxembourg donated to the Banffys the Bonţida area. In this area the Banffys erected a complex of buildings in the Renaissance style. Later on, in the 18th century, the core of this complex of buildings was extended in Baroque style and afterwards in the 19th century in Romantic style.

Turda Gorges

Turda Gorges

They have a length of 2,900 m and a height of walls up to 300 m. Turda Gorges occupy an area of 324 ha and were formed by Jurassic limestone rock erosion by the River Hăşdate. Turda Gorges offer a rare wild landscape: high and steep cliffs, sharp crests, stone towers, rocky valleys, grottos, arches etc. They contain over 1,000 species of plants and animals, including some rare items representing, such as rock eagle.

Turda Saline represents today a veritable museum of the history of salt mining. Răchiţele Waterfall

Răchiţele Waterfall, also called Bridal Veil, is located on Stanciului Valley near the village Răchiţele (Apuseni Mountains). The waterfall is about 50 meters high, on 2 levels and is situated at an altitude of about 1,000 m.

The most important historical and archaeological monument of the town of Turda is Potaissa of the 5th Macedonic Legion of the plateau called Citadel Hill. The camp was built by the legion in 168.

Fântânele Lake

Fântânele Lake

Beliş-Fântânele Lake is an artificial lake reservoir, located in the west of Cluj County, in the northern part of the Apuseni Mountains, at the junction between Gilăului Mountains (East), Vlădeasa Mountains (West) and Big Mountain (South). It was set up during 1970 - 1974 for hydroenergy purposes, the Warm Somes River. It has an area of 9.8 square kilometers and a length of 13 km, and is located at an altitude of 990 m.
