PRESS RELEASE Lufthansa resumes flights to the Bavarian capital - Munich - from Cluj International Airport

Cluj-Napoca, August 1 - 2020:  Cluj „Avram Iancu” International Airport welcomes Lufthansa’s decision to resume its regular flights on the route Munich - Cluj-Napoca - Munich starting today, August 1, 2020, after an interruption of almost 20 weeks, caused by the spread of the SARS CoV-2 pandemic (Covid-19), at European level.


This was the only consistent period of flight interruption in fact, in which the German operator Lufthansa could not provide air transport services at the highest standards, from Cluj International Airport, since the maiden flights of this company in 2008.


Flights to Munich will be operated for the beginning - August - with a regularity of 3 frequencies / week, while from September, flights will be performed on a daily basis on this extremely important route, which in recent years has always been in the top 5 succesful routes from Cluj Airport.

Flights will be operated for Lufthansa by the regional air carrier Air Dolomiti, just as before the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, with 120-seat Embraer E190 / 195 aircraft, available in both Business and Economy class.


Numerous connections are currently being provided from Munich Airport to airports in Europe, North America and Asia, with new flight capabilities remaining to be gradually allocated to the entire network in the coming period.


The General Manager of Lufthansa Group for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Zlatko Zlatic, stated on this occasion: “After a break of four months, we are very pleased that we can resume flights between Cluj-Napoca and Munich. We are happy to welcome our Romanian passengers again on flights to Munich, one of our main hubs in Germany.”


Mr. Viorel Federiga, Chairman of the Board of Cluj "Avram Iancu" International Airport has sent the following message: "Given the current pandemic and its effects on a significant decrease of traffic and interruptions of most flights operated from Cluj Airport, I welcome the decision of Lufthansa to resume its flights to Munich, from the main regional airport in Romania."


The Managing Director of Cluj "Avram Iancu" International Airport, Mr. David Ciceo, stated in his turn: "The resumption of Lufthansa flights has been long awaited by our passengers, who through the connection with the Munich hub, have the opportunity to travel not only to Germany, but to many more international destinations. Cluj Airport will ensure all the conditions for the safe conduct of these flights, thus contributing to the continuity of a traditional partnership with Lufthansa."
