Cluj-Napoca International Airport – the first airport in Europe enrolled in Airport Excellence in Safety (APEX) program

This week, 2nd to 6th of July 2012, a consultative auditing of Cluj-Napoca International Airport on safety issues was performed, within the frames of APEX - Airport Excellence in Safety program. The program is running under the aegis of Airports Council International with the support of International Civil Aviation Organisation.


The auditing was demanded by Cluj-Napoca International Airport, the first airport in Europe enrolled in APEX program.


Airport's safety performances have been analyzed by a team made up of specialist from different continents, representatives of ACI and ICAO, as well as of delegates from other airports with experience in the assessment areas: Mr. Adrian Cioranu, APEX Program manager, delegate of Airport Council International and head of Delegation, Mr. Nicolas Rallo, Regional Officer - Safety from ICAO Europe, Paris, Mrs. Maryse Schermerhorn, Senior Advisor Safety and Enviornment, Schiphol Amsterdam International Airport, Mr. R. Chidambararaman, Manager Aviation Safety at Bangalore International Airport in India, Mr. Mario Martins, Safety and Operations Expert (on behalf of Airports Council International).


Among the activities undertaken within the frames of the project, a special attention was paid to all aspects generated by the compelxity of the investment related to the new runway: new operational, safety and infrastructural aspects.


APEX program makes a validation for Cluj-Napoca International Airport's safety activity in the context of the accelerate infrastructural and operational development registered by the airport during the previous years, while the new take-off/landing runway constructions is to encrease the compelxity of airport ‘s operational activity, which will have to adapt to all applicable regulations and standards in the future.
