Air Transport Police

The Transport Police Division is a central unit within the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police, with no legal personality, exercising its functions under the direct control of Deputy General Inspector of Romanian Police.

The Transport Police has material and territorial jurisdiction directly related to component structures of the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure, both on central and regional levels.

At territorial level, it consists of 8 Regional Transport Police Sections (Bucharest, Craiova, Timisoara, Cluj, Brasov, Iasi, Galati, Constanta).

Main tasks of the Air Transport Police:

  • It coordinates specific activities of air transportation police subunits within the regional transport police departments to prevent and fight against crimes within this system;
  • It manages and coordinates the activity carried out in the aviation system to protect public and private property, economic and financial interests of the state, autonomous administrations and companies operating in this system, and legal interests of citizens;
  • It coordinates specific actions for knowing, preventing and detecting crime of tax evasion, failure to comply with import-export regimes, customs regime for natural and legal persons that carry out their activity at international airports;
  • It organizes and coordinates activities to identify in airports the goods resulting from smuggling, targeting persons who fail to comply with the rules provided for the transit of goods in Romania, or of their importation;
  • It records and stores objects lost in the airport.
